A friend of ours (Rollie Dick) sent us an invitation to his blog, which inspired me to think about putting some of the photos that are on my desk, and nearby, with some of my stories about them. I would welcome any additions and corrections to these memories and look forward to strolling down Memory Lanes (mine and yours) with you.
Here's the 1st photo, one of my sister Judy Lee, sometime in the 60s, outside our home in Harbour Green, Massapequa, NY, with our Mom's new T-Bird (not sure of the year, it was the 1st of 2 that my mom owned, both convertibles....both yellow?) We had some great times in this car, the second convertible that Mom owned. (First was a Buick.) I remember riding home from Jones Beach, Judy in a sweatshirt that she pulled up over her head while we were stopping at what seemed like every stoplight on Merrick Road. I was mortified, Mom just laughed and refused to stop Judy's antics. This memory may have been in the Buick, seems like I was in early years at MHS.

Love this picture of Judy, and the car is an added plus. Does Judy remember the year of this T-Bird, color?
ReplyDeleteWasn't that Tbird Yellow? I distinctly remember that car for some reason along with all the cadillacs and the first volvo. I remember riding in this car from the laundry one day.
ReplyDeleteInteresting ... the memories that certain photos bring back to you!
ReplyDeleteI remember that the Buick was yellow and the seats were green leather. The next convertible was a T-bird about 1960 that was beige or cream colored and eventually she had it painted a dark British racing green.
ReplyDeleteI thought the last T-bird (the one in the photo) was more of a greenish silver. I was driving that one when I had my junior license at the age of 17 - so she had it at least in 1965. That was also the car that I drove when Mom & Dad were away and I decided to take it for a drive in Harbor Green to visit some friends of mine. Grandma didn't know that I left with it and it was not legal for me to drive in Nassau County since my junior license was only good in Suffolk. Of course, while I was gone Mom & Dad happened to call and asked to talk to me. Poor Grandma had to tell them that I was gone and so was the CAR! I always got caught whenever I did something naughty!
I remember Mom taking several people with us, one being Bruce Chattman and maybe Colin Podsen in one of the convertibles. Some of the guys sat up on top of the boot of the car with the top down so we could all fit in the car on our way to Jones Beach. I believe the car was a bit overloaded! Imagine doing that now!
I do remember your being so horrified that when the top was down one one ride, I pulled the drawstring of the hood on my sweatshirt so tight that all you could see was a hole in front of my face. I never understood why you thought it was so awful and the more you complained, the longer I kept it like that! That's what younger sisters do; annoy their older sisters!
